Who we are

History

Our Founders

Our firm was founded in 1980 by John Hotchkis and George Wiley who came together with a shared vision of how an investment management firm should operate. At the core of their vision was the belief that disciplined, independent analysis is the key to finding undervalued securities.

The Torch

John Hotchkis was one of the commissioners of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He believed the Olympic torch symbolized truly admirable characteristics: integrity, drive, achievement, teamwork, and sportsmanship. In 1985 Hotchkis & Wiley adopted a torch as our logo. While we’ve modernized its look over time, it stays with us as do the legacies of our founders.
